Just happened upon this establishment. Great, friendly service. The food was delicious. Ordered the chicken melt and small Caesar. The potato salad is better than mine. What a nice surprise. Definately coming back. Don't be fooled by appearances. Could use a little love out front.

Definitely worth the visit! The fajitas were exceptional. New York cheesecake was huge piece and very delicious. Best part was the espresso Martini. One of the best ones I've ever had. The atmosphere was very relax, and the live piano in the background was key to make the night peaceful. Definitely made my flight delay a little bit better...

Whenever we’re in the area with a big group this is a reliable and perfect spot to meet. Appreciate manager Fernando taking care of our group after some issues came up. Matzo Ball soup is always good! Server was personable but not attentive never got water and food was not served hot. Save room for dessert.

Max’s is a great little spot. It’s an old timey, family restaurant with a big menu and good food. It’s one of the few traditional Jewish restaurants left in the Bay Area. I particularly love their beef, brisket and cabbage soup. They have great jazz music several nights a week, which provides a wonderful atmosphere and great vibes while you eat. If you are a pro jazz musician, you can sit in and play with the band on Monday nights.

Delicious, just like I remember from 25 years ago! They have matzah ball soup and reuban sandwiches with corned beef, so delicious! I got the smaller sized reuban meal and it came cut up like this to share. My kid approved of the kids menu as well. They're busy for good reason!

I have a rule that whenever I go to a new restaurant with a Reuben, I try it. It's my favorite sandwich and I'm on a lifelong quest to find the best. Max's Reuben doesn't quite take the crown, but is a very worthy contender. It's a proper Reuben, no frills or fancy nonsense. Portion size was ample but not excessive. The onion rings were solid, but not especially unique. The atmosphere is like going back through time in a good way. It has the vibe of a classy older restaurant without feeling horribly dated. Service is impeccable, restaurant is clean. The condiments include various mustards and horseradish, which I deeply miss as a condiment. Carrot cake was phenomenal. Perfect consistency. Rich without being overpowering. Will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area.

Understand that this place is frequently always busy and filled with hungry customers! Besides odd hours, don't expect solitude and free servers! I got myself the Blueberry Bees Knees (or thats what it was? I asked for a Gin drink and they got me this as a surprise, and it was a pleasant one.) Its the red drink which doesnt look all too fancy- but it hit the spot. The russian cabage soup is hearty and tasty, warming and perfect for a winters night. I personally like my soup slightly spicy but hey- theres pepper right on the table and the saltiness was perfect. Lastly, I got a.. mojito steak, which is an interesting take on steak - but whatever the case, its sweet in a savory way and goes great with a generous helping of pepper. Its a busy old establishment with a pleasabt atmosphere, plus it offers a nice 10% discount for those staying by the holiday inn nearby. Its.. 47 years old! The locals basically know this place, people know what to expect. They are rather generous with the portions from what I've observed. Overall, the food, atmosphere and serving I've experienced has not let me down! Also, whoever was playing the piano did a good job.

Solid experience at Max's on a Wednesday evening. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express next door and walked over. Wonderful jazz music in the lounge area. The musicians are clearly professionals and super talented - great personalities, too. Don't forget to tip! Complimentary potato chips were served at the bar. Homemade! Happy hour includes appetizers and drinks. I had potato skins served with a chipotle sour cream. Next time I'll opt for regular sour cream. I had matzo ball soup which was some of the best I've ever had. I wrapped up my meal with a ridiculously large slice of chocolate and buttercream icing cake that was off the charts. Great service at the bar and I also met some really nice, interesting fellow travelers. I'll be back when I'm in the area again!
